Limor Livnat

Limor Livnat was born in Haifa, the seventh generation of her family in the Land of Israel, and daughter of Azriel Weiss, a Lehi fighter who was exiled by the British to detention camps in Africa, where he spent more than 4 years with his underground comrades until the establishment of the State of Israel. Her mother Shulamit Livnat was known as the “Singer of the Underground”, and also played an active part in the struggle of the Jewish settlement in Palestine for a Jewish state.

After her IDF service, Livnat studied in the Faculty of General Literature at Tel Aviv University, and during her studies became involved in politics in the student cell of the Herut-Liberal Bloc (Gahal). Livnat served as deputy chairwoman of the Students’ Association at Tel Aviv University. After years of activism in the Herut movement and in the Likud, Livnat was first elected to the Knesset on behalf of the Likud in 1992.

By profession, Livnat is a publicist, and she acted as head of the Likud Information HQ in the 1996 elections, in which Benjamin Netanyahu defeated Shimon Peres and was elected Prime Minister for the first time. She also obtained an Honorary Doctor from Yeshiva University in the USA for her commitment to enriching Jewish education.
